Ok we have just celebrated our Ganatantra Divas so thought would write something about the state of the Union of India. Now everyone would agree that there is something brewing up in this country.Things are looking up,we as a nation have never been more optimistic about the future of the country, demographically speaking our population is a young lot,our business houses which till recently were scared of foreign competition are acquiring assets in distant lands and boy how and at what prices, our stock markets are having a dream run,any MNC worth its salt is either present in India or atleast has an India strategy. As the theme of the World Economic Forum in Davos last year said ,"India Everywhere".It truly is,we are a happening place now,its never been cooler to be an Indian. No more that old crap about snake charmers and beggars ,the future dances tantalisingly in front of us.We are on the cusp of a revolution. But as any great nation on the move we have our own set of problems. As we get ready to face the road ahead these problems do have the potential to scuttle our progress.
Politics, this ofcourse has always been a problem for us.There is a big vaccum as far as good political leadership is concerned.Consider this in a country where most of the population is between the age group of 15-35 the most popular politician deemed most fit for prime-ministership is an 83 year old Vajpayee. No doubt he is a good man...but c'mon can't we have anybody younger than him.Now that speaks volumes about the quality of political leadership in this country. This,at the top level,as we come down the ladder the picture gets murkier and murkier as far as the antecedents of our representatives are concerned. The politicians of today are born of a reckless greed to grab power and fed on an unscruplous ambition to retain it.The ultimate aim for any politician is self-preservation . Sad but true. Then there is the problem of agriculture: All the sectors in this country are growing at a rate of 8 to 9% except agriculture which is growing at something like 2%.This when a majority of the population is employed by this sector. For the country to grow as a whole at 10% the agriculture sector has to fire. The opening up of retail sector and more investments in the supply chain nad storage may very well usher in the next green revolution. And also in the long run agriculture just can't sustain such a large number of people. So maybe manufacturing is the key.The Chinkies have succesfully graduated a large chunk of their farming population to low-tech manufacturing. And now it is time we followed their leed. Then there is the slow pace of economic reforms.A section of the people have tasted the fruits of globalisation but a majority haven't.This is the direct result of the slow pace of reforms. As this continues, the gulf between the have and the have-nots increase. The have-nots over the period will become restless, infact the cracks have started showing up.From Singur,Nandigram to the violence of B'lore or the North East.Term the violence as anything deep down it is the resentment of the have-nots that is showing up.As more and more people become part of the global supply chain the less is the chance of them dirupting the day to day economic acctivity of the nation. Now as far as the present Government is considered the problem is with those people from the Left who provide cruicial support to the govt.I mean consider this,a motley bunch of Mallus and Bongs sabotaging the whole economic reform process of the country. So what is that aches our comrades ??? I for one have absolutely no clue.I think all the comrades should be packed off and sent to China to learn how the real world functions,if they still don't get the point well then pack them off to Cuba.Let them live happily ever after in the Communist utopia and let the rest of the nation live in peace
.Communism can't work because of the simple logic that you just can't make a poor person richer by making a rich person poorer. It just doesn't work that way.Period.Most of the violence be it of the socio-economic,ethnic or the communal kind afflicting the nation,I think can a be stopped or atleast controlled to a large extent by making more and more people part of the great Indian dream.Lets face it a happy and economical satisfied lot of people won't create trouble or riots, they just want to get on with their lives.Infrastructure was another boottleneck but thankfully our political masters are waking up to the reality and benefits of having world class infrastructure. So things are fast changing as far as infrastructure is concerned.
Apart from these there are hundreds of other problems that afflict us.Education, pollution, rampant population growth etc.to name a few but got to say that we as a nation are in our prime.Add to the fact that we have a free press,a vibrant NGO culture and an awesome judiciary, which are the three pillars for any vibrant democracy.Things are looking really good.As the TOI says ,"India Poised, our time is now".We have our issues but we will definitely triumph over the odds. And Inshallah this might well be the Indian century. Here is wishing all of you wonderfull ilanders a Happy Republic day.God Bless you.God bless India.
