Ginger's word of wisdom
Was going through Tom Friedman's "The world is flat" and an interesting passage caught my eye.The story of the gazelle and the lion.Thought I would share it with you guys.It goes like this every morning in the far far away jungles of Africa a gazelle wakes up and thinks that today I have to run faster than the fastest lion in the jungle to survive.Similarly a lion wakes up and thinks to itself today i have to run faster than the slowest gazelle in the jungle to survive. The moral of the story:NO MATTER WHETHER YOU ARE A LION OR A GAZELLE WHEN THE MORNING COMES YOU HAVE TO START RUNNING. What holds true for the jungles in Africa also holds true to our lives, don't you think. As the Kotak Mutual fund adds tell us "Chalna shuru kiya nahi ki bhagna shuru".And in this bhagam-bhag what gets lost is the "real me".We all have some imperfection or the other(and some like yours truly have a plethora of those ).We run to become the perfect something~the perfect spouse, the perfect son,the perfect parent...employee,lover anything..we run we run but the perfection still eludes us.And the net result we feel miserable. One of my favourite stories is a short story called "The Full circle".I don't remeber the author's name but will like to share it.There is a circle whose one piece is missing. As the circle is not compltete it can't roll perfectly but rather wobbles around. So it decides to go on the quest for the missing piece. While wobbling slowly and painfully on the road it makes friends with the flowers and the bushes on the wayside. It befriends the birds on the trees and enjoys the sun.It finds several pieces on the road but not the perfect piece that fits it.So the journey continues and finally it finds the perfect piece and becomes a full circle. Now it realises that it can roll at a great speed and finds no need to wobble and eventually it takes to the fast track. But over a period of time it realises that it is not happy. On further evaluation it ralises that because of the speed he can't talk to his friends and now rarely had the time for the sun.So eventually our protagonist decides to do away with the piece and return to its imperfect ways. And lo it finds happiness again. All this running may make us perfect someday but maybe not happier. So maybe its time to kick off those running shoes and say cheers to life.Let us take time out for ourselves Let us smell the flowers and soak up the sun. Let us have the courage to thank God for all the good things in our life however few they maybe and live life at its on pace.A big GOD BLESS to all.
